After x-Mrs. John Murphy was signed to 4AD, Mern thought it would be a good idea to pitch Mente to Ivo Watts Russell. He sent him this compilation tape after creating a music management firm called David Information. The name David Information was inspired by an identification button worn by a man at Leeds University that Mern paid £1 to obtain (and wear throughout the Pixies 1986 tour of England).
